I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my package from Spresso for a reason that breaks all the rules. Socks and sandals are in (shocker!). Who would have thought that the look that immediately brings stereotypical images of the average dad to mind has hit the runways. This follows the same mindset as the thigh high boots and long pencil skirt combo I styled back in December. It’s unusual but it works.
Spresso prides themselves in designing socks that improve circulation, while still looking fabulous. Compression socks have never looked this good. Looking and feeling great is something that we all strive for after all; there’s no reason to pass up on luxury in the name of comfort. Designed in Canada and made in Italy, Spresso has a pair that is sure to suit even the most refined fashionista.
The proof is on the runway. This once taboo combo has officially gone from faux pas to trendy. The look has been picking up speed since its first appearance from Burberry Prorsum in 2010, Band of Outsiders in 2011 and Hermes in 2014. Most recently, Dolce and Gabbana embraced the look on the runway in their spring 2016 lines. A stunning pair of satin heels with a lace overlay that gave the illusion of socks was a knockout.
Celebrities have taken note and as always, are quick to embrace the trend. Rihanna recently caused a stir in a daring Puma collaboration posted on their Instagram.
While the runways have shown us quirky socks decked out with embellishments it’s easy to keep the look simple for day to day wear. And that’s why it works. Try it with an opaque pair or with the classic black on black combo. It’s sleek, sexy and a great way to dress up a staple. Take a peek at the Spresso catalog for some classic inspiration.
Want to take it one step further? Try pastel socks with metallic sandals, or even polka dots or stripes. Feeling even more adventurous? Vogue has announced novelty socks as a fashion necessity for 2016.
Whether you keep it simple or get a bit creative you’ll be sure to turn heads. This is one look I’ll definitely be rocking on my upcoming European getaway.
